Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms is Mari Okada’s first ever directorial debut, besides writing the story. While Mari Okada’s melodrama isn’t exactly my cup of tea, many people do praise her particular taste in storytelling, Particularly with her hit series AnoHana. But what got her my respect is her writing of Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans, which I recommend people to go and check for themselves.
As for the synopsis of the series. Maquia is part of an immortal clan that get itself involved in a conflict that got her separated from her friends and home; finds herself an orphan child that she raises her own. The bulk of the story is about the relationship between a mother and child and particular where child ages and the mother does not.
